RV/MH Hall Of Fame

Columbus, OH and Elkhart, IN (June 17/18)

I know that this must be confusing to you folks, as I am now writing this from Madison, WI, and the activities took place last week as we drove out here. Here goes, anyway!
We toured the Ohio State Capitol and Statehouse. It is very impressive building that had been renovated to it’s present state. Much rich history was portrayed in the art work and statues in the Lobby. There was a wonderful interactive display in which one could really enjoy the flavor of speaking with a teleprompter, casting votes, the ballot process and much more. There are 33 senators who were in the building trying to wheel and deal on the budget before breaking for the summer. We ate in the Statehouse CafĂ© which was fun. It is interesting being around the lawmakers and Pages as they conducted their business. I don’t know what it is about these folks, but they seem to want to impress us with their importance!
Later that afternoon, we came down to earth when we visited the Laundry and Tanning Salon to do our wash. It still amazes me the number of folks who haven’t heard the word “Melanoma”! Or they don’t think that will ever happen to them.

The next morning we left for Elkhart, IN and the RV Hall of Fame. What a great place that is!!! We saw a wonderful display of campers and trailers dating back to the early 1900’s. Even saw Mae West’s camper on which she rode past her adoring fans. We saw the Hawley Bowlus “Road Chief” which is a predecessor to the Airstream of today. Wally Byam purchased the Bowlus factory and technology to build his first Airstream using the riveted aluminum body.
We have a picture of our Miss Polly for Charlie T to see, and there is a picture of “Little Ben” in his sunglasses. He is the “son” of our friends, Bobbie and Don Smith, and he is a “Teacup” Yorkie.
Tomorrow we will share our visit to Chicago, and the Shedd Aquarium. Until then, Happy Trails to you!!
Mary Ann, Les, and Miss Polly
